NOW “Save Our Bacon” Act Under Review

This week, the House is considering the – an awful piece of legislation that would invalidate California’s Proposition 12, a law overwhelmingly supported by the voters, that bans certain types of confinement of pigs and layer hens in factory production. The agricultural industrial complex has fought this measure tooth and nail since the moment it passed. They couldn’t overturn it in the courts so now they are trying to invalidate it through legislation.
The Save Our Bacon Act would also overturn over 1000 other state laws addressing humane treatment of animals AND workers. It must be stopped! They have embedded this monstrosity in this year’s Farm Bill but an amendment has been proposed to take it out.

A warehouse of large pink pigs in gestation crates while their piglets sleep nearby is a common sight in factory settings.
